Nasha-Mukti: Helping Families Break Free from Addiction

Addiction to alcohol, tobacco or drugs quietly damages health, income, relationships and safety. It often begins as a way to cope with stress, peer pressure or boredom, and slowly takes control. Behind every person struggling with addiction is a family that is struggling too.

Addiction is a health problem, not just a habit

Many people believe addiction is simply a lack of willpower. In reality, it changes how the brain responds to cravings and stress. That is why shaming or punishing rarely works, while patience, treatment and support often do.

Early warning signs

  • Spending more and more money on alcohol, tobacco or drugs
  • Mood swings, anger or secrecy
  • Falling performance at school or work
  • Loss of interest in family and responsibilities
  • Health problems such as poor sleep, weight loss or frequent illness

How families can help

  • Talk calmly and without blame, when the person is sober
  • Encourage a visit to a doctor or a de-addiction centre
  • Remove triggers and support healthy routines
  • Look after your own well-being and seek support for yourself too
Recovery is possible, and no one should have to walk that road alone.

Our Nasha-Mukti Program

Through our Nasha-Mukti Program, we run de-addiction awareness sessions in communities, with a special focus on young people, and support families in guiding their loved ones towards treatment. We work to replace stigma with understanding and hope.

If someone in your family needs help, please speak to a doctor, or contact us and we will help you find the right support.
